BACKGROUND
This is a new scheme aimed at rewarding winners in various musical categories showing diversity by rewarding excellence and outstanding achievements in the musical world across the region. The first award gala is slated for April 2010 in Nairobi and will feature participants from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, southern Sudan and Burundi.
SIMBA MUSIC AWARDS
This is a new awards scheme set out to reward excellence and acknowledge outstanding achievements in the music industry by honoring local achievements across board. The name Simba is a Swahili translation for lion which is the king of the jungle. Since Kenya is known for its lions the artist who takes the award in whichever category at stake shall be deemed to be the lion of the same award.
VISION
Music is a career that creates a solid structure that can support and sustain a desirable livelihood of our artistes. We need to make better use of it and more.
1ST SIMBA MUSIC AWARDS ENTRY
· Songs released between October 1st 2008-october 1st 2009
· Music composer/artiste should be from the countries stipulated above .i.e. Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda and southern Sudan.
· Verification if song is a single or an album
· Artistes originally from the region but currently residing abroad will be considered in the Diaspora award.
· Songs with videos will automatically be entered for the video of the year.
· Artistes who have released an album will be liable for consideration in the album of the year award
SIMBA MUSIC AWARDS PROCESS
1-artistes submit their entries to Simba music awards secretariat.
2-the songs are categorized in the 25 different categories by a panel of judges.
3-The songs are then subjected to a public vote who contribute 50% of the total tally with the rest coming from the judges and verified by a renowned auditing firm.
4 –A Gala night where the artistes will be rewarded and accorded a red carpet treatment.
